Sponsor Your Relative
Some people living in Canada are close to another relative that doesn’t fit in other sponsorship categories. If you can prove the ability to financially support your relative and they are able to legally come to Canada, they may be a fit for the relatives sponsorship program.
This program has some specific requirements, so ask us and we’ll help you determine which immigration program is best for your loved one.
Requirements for the sponsor are:
Minimum 18 years of age; must be a Canadian permanent resident living in Canada or a Canadian citizen or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act; and cannot be in prison, bankrupt, under a removal order (if a permanent resident) or charged with a serious offence.
Requirements for the relative sponsorship program:
Your relative can be an orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild who is under 18 years of age and:
- They are related to you by blood or adoption.
- Both their parents have passed away.
- They are not married or in a personal life relationship.
Alternatively, you may sponsor a relative of any age related by blood or adoption if:
- You don’t have another living relative you could sponsor instead.
- You don’t have any relatives who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or are registered Indians under the Indian Act.
